Danganronpa 3: Hope Side Review

This review contains spoilers for all of Danganronpa 3. If you have not watched it yet, please do not click under the link.

For the finale of the "Hope's Peak Academy Saga," the final episode of Danganronpa 3 is...emotionally satisfying, but not logically satisfying. To put it bluntly, it felt like fanservice and joy, but at the end of the day, what's wrong with a little bit of fanservice?

The premise is the combination of all the events up to this point, mostly on the "Future Side" however. However, there are some elements of the "Despair Side" present here.

For context, near the end of "Future Side," the killer of the game both alternates and is the person nearest to the monitor. Yes, there is no one killer, but rather it's all a suicide. At the same time as well, it is revealed that one of the character, Ryota Mitarai, also known as the Ultimate Animator, was able to create a "Hope Anime." This would brainwash people into going deeply into hope, forcing the world to become focused on hope.

"Hope Side" is meant to the conclusion to all of this.

Within the span of 24 minutes, we learn that the main characters of "Super Danganronpa 2" have gotten out of their coma and out of despair, as evidenced in "Despair Side" and "Super Danganronpa 2." Not only that, they made their way to the site of the Final Killing Game and assist the survivors from being gunned down by the brainwashed minions. All this culminates in them talking down Mitarai and telling him to go toward the future.

These characters also take the blame of the Final Killing Game in order to help protect the world from coming apart from the seams.

Needless to say, this all culminates in a... Well, strange conclusion.

I feel as if the series is ended in a good emotional conclusion and yet, I'm left with a few lingering questions, questions that I don't think will be answered.

Either way, I feel as if this series had a good ending that brought smiles and tears to my eyes.
